Stromness is for many, the most picturesque of Orkney’s towns and villages; its historic winding streets nestling at the head of Hamnavoe and under the shadow of the Hoy hills.
It’s a remarkably cosmopolitan place boasting a satellite campus of Heriot-Watt University and the world-renowned European Marine Energy Centre. It’s also Orkney’s historic gateway with ferries running daily to Scrabster on the Scottish mainland.
Stromness has both primary and secondary schools, a health centre and swimming/fitness centre and excellent shopping. The Pier Art Centre is recognised as having a collection internationally significant modern British art works.
